My Printer Will Not Print In DOS

  • If your printer is a GDI printer, it cannot print in DOS because it does not have the built-in hardware necessary to understand DOS ASCII codes. This is not a defect with your printer and there is no firmware available that would allow your printer to print in DOS. To print in DOS, you need a PCL printer.
  • If your printer prints for Windows programs but does not print for DOS programs, you have a GDI printer. It cannot print for DOS programs.

    General Troubleshooting for Windows Me


    1.Click “Specify the location of the driver(Advanced)”.

    2.Confirm “Search for the best driver for your device.(Recommended)” is marked and remove the check mark from all other places.

    3.Click “Finish”.

    • Download the patch program file from the following link.

      Click here to download file

    • Start the MFL installation program for the MFL CD-ROM.
    • On the last step, Windows will ask you to restart your PC. Click “NO”!!! Do not click “Yes”.
    • Double click on the downloaded patch file (brme.exe).

      The patch file will extract to the directory c:\WINDOWS\TEMP unless you have specified a different file.
      Go to this directory and double click on SETUP.EXE.
    • Restart Windows when the message appears.
    • Download the patch program file from the following link.

    • Double click on the downloaded patch file (brme.exe).

      The patch file will extract to the directory c:\WINDOWS\TEMP unless you have specified a different file.
      Go to this directory and double click on SETUP.EXE.
    • Restart Windows when the message appears.
    • The machine should now receive all telephone and fax calls.
    • From MS Explorer, select “Tools” and then click on “Folder Options”.
    • Select the “File Types” Tab.
    • In “Registered File Types”, select “BMP” image and then click “Advanced”.
    • Select “Open” and then click “Edit”.
    • Click “Browse” and then select Program Files/Accessaries.
    • Select “MSPAINT”.
    • Click “Open” and then click “OK”.
    • Click “Close”.
    • Close and restart the MFL-Pro Smart Click Control Center.
